A recent research study suggests that majority of Web users do not read entire texts; they only browse or scan. Thus, it is advisable to deliver maximum impact with as few words as possible. The study further shows that it is 25 percent harder to read on the Web. Thus, balancing the use of words and pictures can boost the readability of a website.

For example, a site selling healthcare products should provide clear and high-definition photos of the product, along with a short description. This can be done by shortening sentence construction to twenty words at most. Majority of users do not want to read an entire paragraph, either. However, if the healthcare product has complicated features, it might need a paragraph-long description. It is then recommended to trim down the paragraph into forty to seventy words, or to use bullet points.
