Preparations for Winter Running

In winter, running is a great way to stay in shape, feel good psychologically, and improve energy levels. You do not have to quit your fitness routine because of a little cold weather. Written below are some tips on how you can suit up and stay warm for a sprint in the snow.

Always dress in layers; just shed the extra clothing if you get too warm. Choose exercise garments with wicking material because this type of fibre can effectively keep you dry. Don on as well a second fleece layer and outer shell made of wind-and-water-resistant fabric.

Purchase shoes that are specifically designed for running in the snow, too. This is especially important if you prefer to run in the mountains or other natural areas. Make sure to layer your socks as well as the rest of your running gear to guard you against contracting frostbite. Remember that when your feet are dry and warm, you are less likely to get blisters. Have gloves or mittens on also and be sure to cover your neck with a scarf, turtleneck, or neck gaiter.
